The main room of Research and Development Section, also being much width, was
full of machinery and computers leaned against the walls and always working,
that it reduced the space available remarkablly. Slight tickings and clickings
coming from the machinery were heard lightly in the background. A middle-sized
conference table was situated in the center of the room. Five persons,
arranged in informal way, occupied the half of the places available around the
table, discussing excitedly and speaking all at the same time, so that the
loud confusion in the room was enlarged. Only the professor Albani seated calm
and silent, deeply thoughtfull, with the look that was stared into space. The
door of the room was opened and the professor Carpitelli entered with two
persons, a man in military uniform and a woman. Immediately the other people
kept quiet and now in the room only the slight tickings and the mechanical
clickings were heard again. The new ones arrived took place around the table
and seated composedly. Those that already were in the room and that still
stood, made the same thing. Professor Carpitelli began very soon to speak:
"Gentlemen and colleagues, we are here gathered togheter in order to face up a
serious situation of crisis that happened suddenly. I call upon professor
Albani to speak, so that he can introduce the persons he chose in order to
take part in this reunion and then I will make the same thing with the persons
entered in this room with me ". The Professor Albani got up out of the chair
and begun to speak without preambles: "Starting on my right here is the
professor Stuart, chief of Computer Science Section", a skinny middle-aged
man, with glasses and with a slight receding hairline, raised a hand in order
to confirm that it was spoken about him. "Beside him there is the doctor
Richov of Prenatal Dietetics Section". A brown-haired woman, about 35 years
old, amazingly much beautiful and dressed in an informal way, winked at the
air. "On my left here is the professor Torgher of Psychology Section". A
woman, about 60 years old, with gray hairs and a much professional aspect,
lifted the pencil that she held in her hand, in order to confirm that he spoke
about her. "And finally the professor Levi-Richter of Bioengineering Section".
A high and lean man, about 40 years old, a blond and with a careful look man,
raised the head when his name was called. The professor Albani, finished his
speech, sat down.
