The womb is the organ that supervises the gestation of the Mammalia. It has a sunken shape and is supplied of faces composed of muscle fibres. Its scope is that one to contain the ovum, produced from the female and fertilized from the male, for the whole period of its increase and its maturation. Such procedure takes the name of "pregnancy", at the end of which the womb expels the fetus. Anatomically the womb has a shape like a pear and is situated in the low part of the pelvis, in front of the rectum and behind the bladder.
In August 1998 the scientist Robert Forman, director of the Medical Reproductive Institute of London, in an interview asserts that within 25 years the medical research will be in a position to allowing the procreation also the sterile pairs, thanks to the employment of artificial wombs, whose theoretical conception is already today a reality. According to Foreman the artificial womb will have the shape of a glass tank and the embryo will feed itself and grow inside it at the same temperature of the womb of the natural mother. The most disturbing thing, between the several implications, either of ethical or moral character, is the fact that the women more will not be forced to hold within themselves the fetus, from its conception to the birth, but, with this new technique, they will be able to decide not to make it.
In this tale it is foreseen that the humanity will have to appeal massively to the employment of the artificial wombs, in order to avoid the extinction, due to spreading of the sterility. It has been assumed that these artificial wombs also are formed of mechanical and biological parts, grafted one in the other. Really it is not a technology of which we can decide today, but new scientific disciplines, as for istance the Bionics, that conjugates Biology with Electronics, are completing the first steps and, always in August 1998, the first bionic arm has been grafted to a man lacking in such limb for an incident. Therefore in future perhaps it will be possible a science that, conjugating Biology with Mechanics, allows to use artificial wombs, partly mechanical and partly biological, in order to obtain a similar type of procreation.
